Description
Seasons Greetings to all at National Geographic and our members.... I shot this image over 30 years ago on Fuji colour slide film and scanned it to my computer 20 years later. We had set sail in June/83 from Tuktoyaktuk NWT, breaking year old ice inside the Arctic Circle on the Beaufort Sea. The steam rising from the open water in our wake is brilliantly lit by the "midnight sun". I can only assume that Santa was on a supply run to Inuvik, or just out to give his reindeer some exercise.
